Peter and the Wolf – an immersive musical experience for children
Written in 1936, Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf has become a timeless children’s classic. The narrator tells the story, adapted from a Russian folk tale, of the boy Peter, his grumpy grandfather, a duck, a bird and a cat – and of course, the wolf which Peter eventually catches and takes to the zoo.
Each character is brought to life by unforgettable music and children very quickly learn to distinguish between the different themes and sonorities.
Children actively joined in the performance, supported and encouraged by Noa and Rosie – each had a prop or a puppet so that they were able to engage with the drama as the story unfolded. Over 30 children attended.
William Hancox provided the music live, using Prokofiev’s own arrangement for solo piano. Toby Sims narrated the story beautifully.
Puppets designed and created by Danoush Lachman
Child friendly refreshments were included.
