Gigi Casey is 22 year old lyric Soprano from Sussex. This September she started her Master’s with scholarship at the Royal College of Music under the tutelage of Dinah Harris.
She completed her Bachelors with 1st class honours at The Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) under the tutelage of Louise Winter, Sandra Dugdale and Linda Richardson. From the age of 14 she attended the prestigious Junior Royal Academy of Music with the generous support of MDS funding. During her time at the Academy she played roles of Gianetta in L’elisir d’amore and Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus. She represented the RAM singing Soprano 1 in Mahler’s symphony No.2 at the South Bank Queen Elizabeth Hall and in her final year won the Ann Lampard song prize.
In her first year at the Royal College of Music she has performed in a Strauss workshop with the renowned pianist Roger Vignoles, and during opera scenes took on the role of Polly in ‘The Threepenny Opera’ by Kurt Weill. Next term, she is excited to perform the lead in Madeleine Dring’s chamber opera ‘A Cupboard of Love’. Outside of college productions, she has sought out concert opportunities, including a performances at St Mary le Strand.
Whilst studying her undergraduate at the RNCM she has performed in 6 operas and 3 opera scenes. Notable roles include: Fiordiligi in “Cosi Fan Tutte” & Veronique in Lecocq’s “Le Docteur Miracle” (RNCM opera scenes 2023) and Angelica in “Il burbero di buon cuore”(RNCM opera scenes 2024). In addition to her studies at RNCM she has won the 2023 Dame Felicity Lott Recital Competition and the Junior Charles Wood Song Prize 2024 and successfully auditioned for the prestigious ISA- International Summer Academy of the MDW 2023 (university for Music and Performing Arts Vienna) 2023. This past summer she was also a Young Artist in Belle Ile, for the Lyrique En Mer Festival 2024.
She has performed in children’s chorus for Glyndebourne festival productions of Carmen (2015), and as a fox cub in The Cunning Little Vixen (2016). During her time at Glyndebourne she had the opportunity to sing solo with The Sixteen in Harry Christophers Christmas Concert and has performed several titled roles in Glyndebourne Youth Opera productions.
In 2019 she was made a Glyndebourne Junior Artist and worked with top industry professionals, had access to observe rehearsals on site and attended individual tutorials with Glyndebourne’s vocal talent consultant Mary King.
She is thrilled to be given the opportunity to be a part of the inaugural Academy at National Opera Studio in 2025.
