Andra Băcilă gave a solo piano recital – a programme of Liszt piano works. Unfortunately, due to illness William Hancox was not be able to play the original programme Carnaval and we were grateful to Andra Băcilă who agreed to step in at short notice.
Her programme included the following works:
Consolation no.3, which is the most popular of the Consolations; Legend no.2: St Francis walking on the waves – the piece was inspired by a picture owned by Liszt of St. Francis of Paola (who was Liszt’s name saint); two movements – Vallée d’Obermann and Marriage of the Virgin – from the Années de pèlerinage (Years of Pilgrimage) which is widely considered as the masterwork and summation of Liszt’s musical style. Ballade no. 2 which is known to be based on the Greek myth of Hero and Leander; and finally the recital ended with Dante Sonata, a Fantasia in one movement
Andra Băcilă is an outstanding young pianist. She has recently played a solo recital at the Liszt Institute (Balassi Institute) in Paris, and in 2022, she won numerous competitions including The Hungarian Music Festival, International Moscow Music Online Competition and Future Stars International Piano Competition.
