Jozik Kotz (bass) and Colin Hughes (piano) took a journey through some of the highways and byways of the song genre in English, with a recital which includes much-loved favourites, lesser-known gems and some lighter numbers – all in the comfort and unique atmosphere of the Hailsham Pavilion.

The 20th century was a golden age for English song, with a large group of composers, from Britten to Vaughan Williams, from Bridge to Warlock writing masterpieces in the form. This recital explored some of this wealth of music, with some known and loved songs and others which were new to the audience.

Bass Jozik Kotz is a hugely experienced concert and opera singer, a finalist in the Kathleen Ferrier, Royal Overseas League and Richard Tauber competitions, and winner of the South East Arts competition, which led to his Wigmore Hall debut. He was partnered by pianist Colin Hughes, who has been involved with many local music groups. Jozik is musical director for Hailsham Choral Society and a director of Music Box Wealden.
